Before staining pine, protect the trim or wall above the pine floor by taping it off with masking tape. Sand pine floor as much as possible. Use finer and finer sandpaper until you use the finest possible. This technique is very important to get a nice finish on pine. Hold of a clear wood conditioner with a standard brush. Balsam will block some of the pores in the pine for a more even finish when you use the word stain. Apply wood conditioner in sections a few square feet in size. Start in the back room and work your way.

Allow plain balm to dry for at least 15 minutes, or the time recommended by the manufacturer. Use staining pine floor with a new brush. Apply it on very small sections at a time. Brush with the grain of the wood with smooth, long strokes for best results. Wipe the stain with a cloth after it sits for about 30 seconds.  Allow the layer of the stain to dry completely on your pine flooring. Not continue until dry. Use a clear finish pine floor in the same way as you applied the stain, working in small sections and with long, smooth strokes with the grain of the wood. Use a brush to wipe up some globs of finish that appears within five minutes after application.
